Ring of Fire was born almost 300,000-1 million years ago, created by a series of tectonic plates and subduction. It was named after its physical feature around the Pacific ocean. The Ring of Fire stretches 40,000 km. Some of their volcanoes are dormant but many are still active! About 75% of the world's most active volcanoes are located within that region. The Ring of Fire hosts deadly earthquakes and volcano eruptions.

What is a subduction?

it is the sinking of one plate below its neighboring plate or the process of driving an ocean plate to the interior.

Significant Recorded Eruptions

PINATUBO (PHILIPPINES, 1991)2nd largest eruption in the 20th century, followed by a 7.7 Magnitude earthquake.

EL CHICHON (MEXICO, 1982)killed 2000 and filled a crater lake.

ARENAL (COSTA RICA, 1968)Costa RIca's most active volcano!

KRAKATOA (INDONESIA, 1883)- world's biggest recorded explosion killed 30,000 and completely destroyed itself and the islands of Sunda Strait. The explosion was heard as far as Australia!

MERAPI (INDONESIA, 1996)Most active volcano in Indonesia, it had erupted several times at least every 2-3 years!

An Unforgetable Moment

The tsunami of December 26, 2004 in the Indian Ocean was created through a shifting tectonic plates and underwater volcano eruptions, creating a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. This giant wave killed more than 200,000 people ,injuring 500,000 and destroyed everything in its path. As for the concerned world, the US donated $300 million in cash, that is the largest amount of donation for natural cause in history!
